Orchard on the up but still room for growth

NFL Division Three: Armagh 0-10 - Louth 0-08

The Orchard County may have moved up in the world but assistant manager Peter McDonnell, standing in for absent boss Kieran McGeeney, believes the team still has to ripen.

If promotion to Division Two was secured - along with a final against Fermanagh - in this feisty, tempestuous encounter against a never-say-die Louth, then additional lessons must be absorbed as part of the team's learning curve.

"This side is still maturing and the important thing is that the players must keep their focus as we go along," said the assistant boss.

A 13th minute missed penalty by Jamie Clarke and a string of other spurned opportunities highlighted Armagh's profligacy and it took three points from Ciaran O'Hanlon and a brace each from Aidan Forker and Clarke to boost self-belief.

The immaculate free-taking of Ryan Burns, who landed six points from placed balls, kept Louth afloat virtually until the final whistle, points in the 66th and 68th minutes from Forker and O'Hanlon ultimately proving their undoing.
