Clare claim title

Clare staged a remarkable comeback to win the NHL Division 1B final in a thriller at the Gaelic Grounds, defeating Limerick by 0-21 to 1-16.

The Banner county were eight points behind after Shane Dowling drilled a first half penalty to the net.

But they battled back, with Conor McGrath hitting a succession of brilliant scores on his way to a 12 points tally.

It was McGrath and Nicky O'Connell who hit the late scores that stunned the home side and sealed the title for their Munster neighbours.

Clare's double reward is promotion to Division 1A and a place in the Division One semi-final against Kilkenny.

Meanwhile, Roscommon won the Connacht U21 Football Championship title with a 1-13 to 0-8 win over Sligo at Hyde Park.

Donie Smith and Brian Egan led the way as the Rossies built up a 0-9 to 0-2 lead by the halfway stage.

Smith netted the only goal from a penalty at the beginning of the final quarter, bringing his tally to 1-6, and there was no way back for Sligo.
