Cooney steps down at Offaly

The Offaly county board is to appoint an interim management team after senior football manager Gerry Cooney stepped down.

The Meath native announced his decision following a meeting with players.

His departure follows a disappointing league campaign which saw the faithful county relegated to Division Four of the NFL.

County Board Chairman Pat Teehan said in a statement that it is with regret that he reluctantly accepts the manager's resignation.
