Cork make winning start

Cork staged a strong finish to score a 1-20 to 1-15 win over Offaly in their opening NHL Division One game.

The Rebels got off to the perfect start at Pairc Ui Chaoimh when Tom Kenny drilled home a goal in the first minute.

But Offaly struck back with a Colin Egan goal, and they trailed by just a point at half-time, 1-12 to 1-11.

The sides traded scores in the third quarter, but Cork came good when it mattered, with Ben O'Connor, Jerry O'Connor and Pat Horgan hitting the points that saw them across the line.
