Deering steps down from Carlow role

Carlow county board chairman Pat Deering is to step down in order to concentrate on a career in politics.

Deering (43) has been in the post for the past four years, during which he played a major role in the progress of hurling in the county. He has also been a leading figure in efforts to establish a centre of excellence at Fenagh.

He has been selected as a Fine Gael candidate for the next General Election.
