While Derry manager Rory Gallagher made the startling admission — not normally conceded by county managers — that he was already looking ahead to Derry’s Ulster Championship campaign against the winners of this Sunday’s preliminary round tie between Down and Donegal, his captain Chrissy McKaigue wasn’t allowing himself such luxuries.

I keep him going about that because I didn’t feel that way!” says McKaigue who, at 31, can now be considered the veteran of the team.
