Rebels' power proves key as Derry flounder

Derry's hopes of claiming the Littlewoods Division Two National Camogie League title were clinically dismantled by a ruthlessly efficient Cork side in yesterday's final at the Coralstown/Kinnegan complex.

The Oak Leaf side, outsmarted in most areas of the park and unable to match their well-drilled opponents for pace and power, meekly submitted in the end, despite having been well in touch at 0-9 to 1-3 by the half-way stage.

But when the Rebel County unleashed a sustained scoring blitz in the second-half Derry were left floundering.

Defeat was to prove a bitter pill for the team to swallow in the wake of their recent improved form.

Cork scorers: O'Shea 0-6(3fs); McCarthy 0-4; Sugrue, Fahy 1-1 each; McCarthy, Hickey, F Neville, Homan 0-1 each

Derry scorers: Hegarty 1-1; Kielt 0-2 (2f), McAllister 0-2.
