Donegal do just enough and make minor semi

Donegal 0-10 - Roscommon 1-05

By Staff Reporter

Declan Bonner has his eyes on a big prize after his Donegal minors withstood ferocious late pressure from Roscommon to scrape their way into the All-Ireland minor semi-finals.

In Saturday's quarter-final in Sligo, Donegal looked home and hosed as they led by six points with 15 minutes to go.

However, Noel Gately found the net from distance in the 47th minute and Donegal were on the ropes late on.

Roscommon went in search of a goal, but Evan McGrath saw his net-bound effort in added time blocked by man of the match Cian Mulligan as Donegal prevailed.

Mulligan's four points from wing-back proved vital for Donegal, who didn't score in the final quarter.

Roscommon were 0-3 to 0-1 ahead, before Donegal hit back and John Campbell put them 0-5 to 0-4 in front at half-time.

Then Mulligan, Campbell, Lorcan Connor and Jamie Brennan were all on target to pull the Tir Chonaill men clear.

Gately rocked them with a thunderous goal, but they held on. Croke Park and an All-Ireland semi-final now beckons.

"Are we just going to see Croke Park? No," insisted Bonner. "We're going there to win."
