Down Senior Football Championship: Bryansford breeze to replay success

Bryansford won last night’s Down senior championship first round replay at a canter with a 0-14 to 0-9 victory over Castlewellan.

Castlewellan were never really in it as Bryansford began with a bang.

Bryansford manager Pete McGrath opted to move Kalum King into the full forward line early on and the All-Star nominee wreaked havoc and provided plenty of ammunition for his fellow forwards.

Three scores each for Chris and Ciaran Brannigan put the ‘Ford in a commanding 0-6 to no score lead after 11 minutes.

Fintan McGreevy eventually pointed for Castlewellan but Ciaran Brannigan added a seventh point for his side.

A decent finish to the first half saw Luke Toner and McGreevy reduce the arrears to four with Bryansford leading 0-07 to 0-3 at the break.

The game was effectively put to bed in the first five minutes of the second half.

Two points from Ciaran Brannigan and another from King moved the favourites seven points in front.

Damien McGrady pointed for Castlewellan and Fintan McGreevy’s accuracy from the dead ball ensured Castlewellan were not humiliated but points from Luke Howard, Conor Gribben and Chris Brannigan meant Bryansford were never really troubled and they can now concentrate on their Championship game with Saval this Sunday.
