Fennelly gets Laois top job

Brendan Fennelly has been appointed as Laois' new hurling manager on a one-year deal.

Fennelly - who is a member of the famous Ballyhale hurling clan - succeeds Niall Rigney, who resigned in the wake of the All-Ireland Qualifier defeat to Carlow.

The new manager was in charge of Carlow before guiding Waterford club De La Salle to county and provincial titles in 2009.

He was one of seven Fennelly brothers in the great Ballyhale Shamrocks team of the 1970s and 1980s.
