Black day for Fermanagh as Donnelly walks
Fermanagh 0-10 Galway 1-13
A dominant display from Galway in the second half saw them emerge as six-point winners in what was at times a fiery affair in Brewster Park.
Fermanagh captain Eoin Donnelly was black carded on nine minutes and although it took until the second half for this loss to be felt Galway made their physical superiority pay.
The crucial score came in the first minute of the second half when Damien Comer was the beneficiary of a long ball into the full forward line and his fine finish brought Galway back to just a point adrift. Fermanagh had been much the better team with a trio of Sean Quigley points in the final five minutes pushing their advantage out to four at the break.
Barry McHugh was in fine free taking form for Galway while Michael Daly hit two in a row to first draw level and then push his team a point ahead.
A Paul Conroy point where he fielded a Fermanagh kick out before driving forward to fire over was indicative of the way the game had swung.
The home side's corner back Cian McManus saw red in injury time as the day got even worse for Pete McGrath's side who managed just three points in the second 35 minutes.
Comer added two more points as his side stretched their advantage and eased into a six-point lead and while Fermanagh had a legitimate shout for a penalty there was never any danger of the lead being reeled in.
