Hogan suffers further injury agony

Kilkenny skipper Brian Hogan has been ruled out of the All-Ireland SHC final after suffering a broken finger in training.

The centre-back, who was already recovering from a shoulder injury sustained in Kilkenny's semi-final win over Cork, was ruled out after visiting a specialist in Waterford on Friday.

Hogan picked up the freak injury after getting his hand caught in an opponent's jersey.

Manager Brian Cody has admitted that he will be a big loss, saying: "Brian has been fighting injury for the past few weeks really.

"First he was a doubt going into the Cork game with a finger injury, he got over that, and then shipped a heavy knock to his shoulder and was gone after 15 minutes or so.

"He fought that injury very, very hard, did everything right and then got a finger injury. That's hard going on any player, and it's really tough altogether for any player to miss an All-Ireland final."
