Kavanagh to retire

Cork veteran Derek Kavanagh has announced his retirement from inter-county football.

Kavanagh finally achieved his goal by winning an All-Ireland medal last September, and has decided to bow out at the top. He came on as a sub in the victory over Down in the final, having been on the losing side to Kerry in 2007 and '09.

He will continue to play with his club, Nemo Rangers, and will be part of their bid to win the Munster title later this month.
