Kernan leaves Galway

Joe Kernan has resigned as Galway football manager after just a year in the job.

His departure leaves Galway looking for their fourth manager since 2007.

Former All-Ireland winner current Sligo boss Kevin Walsh is the early favourite to fill the vacancy.

Kernan replaced Liam Sammon last September, but a hugely disappointing season followed, with the Tribesmen crashing to championship defeats to Sligo and Wexford after narrowly avoiding a shock loss to New York in their Connacht SFC opener.
