Limerick scored a 4-12 to 2-13 win over Clare to win the NHL Division Two final at Ennis and secure their return to top flight hurling.
But they needed a late surge to see off the underdogs at Cusack Park.
Seanie Tobin cracked in a Limerick goal early on, but Nicky O'Connell's accurate striking had Clare in front in the latter stages of the first half.
It all went wrong for the Banner when goalkeeper Donal Tuohy stepped back over the line with the sliothar in hand to concede a second goal.
The Treaty men led by 2-6 to 0-8 at the interval, but Clare pulled back a goal early in the second half through Darach Honan
And there was a further boost for Clare when Conor McGrath blasted in their second goal to leave just three points between the sides.
The goals were flowing, and there was another from Limerick's Declan Hannon, and they pushed on from there to finish with a confident flourish.
Kevin Downes finished the job off with a fourth goal, from which Clare never looked like recovering.
