Marvellous Mayo finally lay their Kerry hoodoo to rest

Kerry 0-17 Mayo 2-16

Some day soon, this Mayo team are going to opt for the quiet life, and not subject the neutrals of Gaelic football to their own torture.

But that day is some way off yet after they gave a masterclass of hammering the hammer to trounce Kerry and make it to their third All-Ireland final of the last five seasons.

And credit must go to manager Stephen Rochford for persisting with the experiment of retaining Aidan O'Shea in a man-marking role of Kieran Donaghy, this time to decisive effect.

So frustrated did the Tralee man become that eventually he ended his day sent off on a straight red card for punching O'Shea towards the end.

If this is the end for the Irish basketball international, it wasn't a fitting way to bow out.

When Donal Vaughan's attempted shot fell short, Diarmuid O'Connor was on hand to flick to the net.

In the second, Andy Moran drew a defender with a one-two with Cillian O'Connor and managed to flick the ball to the net despite the close attention of Paul Murphy.

From there, they sailed home.
