McManus makes Donegal pay penalty

Donegal 1-11 Monaghan 1-11

Donegal and Monaghan remain right in the hunt for a final place in the Allianz League Division 1 following yesterday's draw in Ballyshannon.

However, Monaghan will be the happier with the result.  Conor McManus, was, unusually, something of a peripheral figure having scored just one from a free as Donegal were three points in front and perhaps should have been out of sight.

Michael Carroll's fifth minute goal following a flowing move gave them breathing space.

Monaghan's Jack McCarron scored six times in that first half to put his team 0-9 to 1-5 ahead at the interval. At the start of the second half, Donegal went from one down to one up in just 37 seconds, with Murphy and Ciaran Thompson on the mark. Donegal's Patrick McBrearty came from the bench to kick two points, the second of which, prior to a monster free from Murphy, left Donegal three in front.

In the 71th minute referee David Gough spotted a tug on the jersey by Donegal substitute Martin McElhinney on Darren Hughes and awarded Monaghan a penalty, from which McManus sent Mark Anthony McGinley the wrong way to level it up.
