Mellon announces Tyrone retirement

Ryan Mellon has called time on his Tyrone career.

He made his debut in 2003 but was out of action for 18 months due to illness.

He succeeded in rebuilding his strength and returning to the top level to win two All-Ireland SFC medals.

Mellon (30) famously confirmed his return to top form when he scored the opening two points of the 2005 All-Ireland final to set the Red Hands on the road to victory over Kerry.

He was also a major figure in Tyrone's third Sam Maguire Cup triumph three years later.
