Minor Championship: Imperious Armagh storm past Fermanagh

Armagh eased their way into the Ulster Minor final with a comprehensive 2-18 to 0-07 victory over Fermanagh in Clones yesterday.

The opening period had been evenly contested with the sides sharing the first six points but Armagh began to get a grip on the game around the midway stage of the half. Fermanagh goalkeeper Brian McAleer pushed Ethan Rafferty's shot over the bar but he was unable to deny Patrick Burns moments later as he slipped his shot into the bottom corner of the net.

Half forward Conall Gough then rattled the Fermanagh crossbar before Calum Cumiskey bagged their second goal.

Fermanagh, though, did continue to battle hard and, with Bryan Owens and Eddie Courtney knocking over points, they remained in touch at the interval.

However, the second half was all one way traffic. The impressive Paul McGeown landed a point within 20 seconds of the restart and this was quickly followed by points from Ciaran O'Hanlon and Conor McNally as Armagh took over.

Fermanagh only managed one point in the second half which came from a Courtney free in injury time and Armagh can now look forward to an appearance in an Ulster final.
