Callum Mullan-Young found himself in the custodian's role last year as Derry strode into the All-Ireland minor football semi-final in which they were beaten by Kerry.
Now the strapping teenager finds himself immersed in championship action once again only this time at senior level.
He makes his debut for the Oak Leaf county against Louth in today's All-Ireland qualifier conscious that a good performance could see him add to his experience over the course of the summer.
Injury to regular goalkeeper Thomas Mallon opens the door to Mullan-Young and along with Neil Forrester, Liam McGoldrick, Christopher Bradley, Eoghan Brown and Conor McAtamney he is afforded the chance to make an impact in manager Damian Barton's much-changed line-up.
Louth will arrive at Owenbeg following their defeat to Meath in the Leinster Championship.
