Oisin has final say for Crossmaglen Rangers

Crossmaglen Rangers 0-11 St Eunan's 0-8

The experience of Crossmaglen shone through as they forced their way into the Ulster Club final against St. Eunan's of Letterkenny at Brewster Park, Enniskillen.

Armagh ace Oisin McConville was in great form, especially in the second period, with five of Rangers' seven points after the break.

They can also thank other veterans, the McEntee twins and full-back Francie Bellew, who picked up the man of the match award.

Bellew spent much of the second half on the attack for the winners and said afterwards: "It was a brilliant performance in the second half. We were slow out of the blocks, maybe it's old age, but it took us a while to get going.

"Fair play to Oisin and the McEntees, they were outstanding."

It could have been different if St. Eunan's had taken all their opportunities in the opening half and they also spurned a great goal chance in the second half.

The Letterkenny men were out of the blocks like sprinters, dominating the opening quarter, to lead by 0-5 to 0-1 after 14 minutes.

Ross Wherity accounted for two of the tally, both from awkward angles; Conall Dunne chipped in with a free while Rory Kavanagh and Paddy McGowan also found the range.

Crossmaglen were very sluggish with Tony Kernan getting their only point of the quarter after five minutes.

The second quarter saw the Armagh men find their feet and their experience brought them frees for Aaron Kernan and that man McConville to point while John McEntee stroked over a great point three minutes from the break.

Crossmaglen were beginning to test the St. Eunan's rearguard but were off target on three occasions close to the break while St. Eunan's only reply was a Conall Dunne free.

Within nine minutes of the restart, McConville had hit three points to edge Crossmaglen 0-7 to 0-6 ahead for the first time.

However, St. Eunan's had a great goal chance when Rory Kavanagh put Ross Wherity through but Paul Hearty saved at the expense of a '45', which Wherity pointed, but they did not raise another flag until the final minute.

In between Crossmaglen took a firm grip with a magnificent free from the sideline from John McEntee and two more from McConville.
