Omagh strong favourites for MacRory Cup

There was a time when St Colman’s College were the dominant force in MacRory Cup football.

But in more recent times St Pat’s Dungannon and Omagh CBS have stepped up to the mark capturing both MacRory and Hogan Cups.

Only last season, though, the Newry side was back challenging for honours losing a MacRory semi-final to Dungannon by a single point.

But they are back in today’s MacRory decider against hotly fancied Omagh CBS.

The latter are fast taking on the mantle of MacRory specialists.

This is their sixth decider this decade and this particular group of players are a force to be reckoned with having already lifted Dalton, Corn na nOg and Brock cup since first coming together.

It’s an intriguing final. The Newry College, bidding to end a MacRory famine, their opponents keen to avenge a Rannafast decider defeat two seasons ago.

The AIB club football final at Croke Park sees St Gall’s bidding to lift the cup for the first time.
