Monaghan got back on track in the Ulster MFC with a comfortable win over Antrim at Corrigan Park yesterday.

Monaghan played more than half the game with 14 players after the sending-off of forward Aaron Mulligan, but goals from Seán Jones and Lochlainn Power had already put the visitors in front.

Any hopes Antrim had of a comeback were ended by Power's second goal and with the Saffrons kicking nine second-half wides to take their total to 14.

Monaghan had started brightly with points from Mulligan and Jones and although an Eoin Hynds free got Antrim off the mark, Séamus McEnaney's side pulled away midway through the half.

Jones and Power got the goals that put daylight between the teams, while Mulligan landed another point, only to see his afternoon cut short by a red card following a scuffle on 25 minutes.

Monaghan still led by 2-4 to 0-1 at half-time and that cushion went into double figures when Power fired to the net within a minute of the restart.

Karl Gallagher, Jones and substitute Mark Mooney added points for Monaghan, before Antrim finally used their numerical advantage for Dominic McAteer and Fergal Henry to get on the scoresheet.

Gallagher, Donnach Swinburne and Christopher Flood kicked further points for the Ulster league winners, before the game finished with four subs making their mark: Connor Morris and Tomás Skillen for Antrim and Michael Meehan and Darragh Dempsey for Monaghan, who finished with 13 players after an injury to Ryan Farrelly meant that Robbie Hanratty had to deputise in goals for the last few minutes.

Antrim scorers: D McAteer (0-1), E Hynds (0-1f), F Henry (0-2). Subs: C Morris (0-1) for Rodgers (41), T Skillen (0-1) for McGarrell (44).

Monaghan scorers: C Flood (0-1), A Mulligan (0-2), S Jones (1-3), K Gallagher (0-2); D Swinburne (0-1), L Power (2-0). Subs: M Meehan (0-1) for Wilson (inj., 16), M Mooney (0-1) for Irwin (38), D Dempsey (0-1) for Jones (44).

Referee: C Mooney (Down).
