Revenge sweet for Lennon's Tyrone

Tyrone 4-19 Donegal 0-16

By Kevin Kelly

Tyrone turned the form book on its head at Carrickmore on Saturday afternoon as they defeated a highly fancied Donegal side to make it through to the semi-finals of the Nicky Rackard Cup.

It was a superb display from Mattie Lennon's charges as they hurled with conviction throughout against opponents who had beaten them by 23 points in the league decider just a month earlier.

The contest that was over by half-time as Tyrone made great use of a strong wind at their backs to build up a commanding 17-point lead. A superb side-line cut from Tiarnan Morgan was one of the highlights of a half that saw Conor Grogan find the net twice and Damian Casey weigh in with seven points.

Lee Henderson, Joe Boyle and Padhraic Doherty closed the gap on the restart but Tyrone stayed in control with Casey firing in a superb goal. Bryan McGurk and Casey exchanged points with Henderson, Gerry Gilmore and Davin Flynn.

Sean Og Grogan got Tyrone's fourth goal of the afternoon after good approach play from full forward Casey.

Henderson, Joe Boyle and substitute Sean McVeigh had the final three points of the game for Donegal but it only served to put a slightly better look on the scoreboard.
