Ryan named Tipperary boss

Declan Ryan is the new manager of the Tipperary hurlers.

He succeeds Liam Sheedy, who stepped down last month, just weeks after leading the Premier county to All-Ireland glory.

Ryan, a treble All-Ireland winner as a player, has been given a two-year term by the county board.

His coach will be Tommy Dunne, while Michael Gleeson joins the backroom team as selector.

Dunne captained the Tippearary team which won the All-Ireland title in 2001, while Gleeson is the manager of Thurles Sarsfields.
