Ryan up against Fitzgerald

Former Waterford ladies football boss Michael Ryan is to challenge Davy Fitzgerald for the hurling manager's post in the county.

Ryan, who served as a hurling selector under previous manager Justin McCarthy, claims he has been asked by several former players, and members of the present panel, to put his name forward for consideration.

Fitzgerald's reign officially ended following the All-Ireland semi-final defeat to Tipperary. He has not yet made his intentions known, but is expected to seek reappointment.
