Sligo redevelopment bid confirmed

The Sligo county board has confirmed that work will begin on its new centre of excellence in the New Year, despite the recession.

The 3.2 million euro project will be developed on a 22-acre site at Scarden, outside Sligo town.

Planning permission has been obtained, and the scheme has been approved for funding from Croke Park.

The centre, which is expected to be operational by 2013, will provide training and other facilities for all the Sligo county teams in both hurling and football.
