Tyrone 1-18 UUJ 0-8

Tyrone cruised to victory at Healy Park last night in the concluding McKenna Cup group game against Jordanstown.

With no wins in this year's campaign for Jordanstown coupled with the withdrawal of Queen's University, the future of third-level institutions in this competition will be the subject of future scrutiny.

The first half here, though, was extremely close.

After 24 minutes the sides were level on 0-4 each, Richie Donnelly's unerring kicking from the dead ball and a superlative effort from Ben O'Reilly helping to keep the students in touch, and indeed they even edged in front a couple of times as the opening half progressed.

For this time of year, it must be said that most of the scores were superb, one curling effort from Mark Carson a highlight.

The match turned with a scrappy goal from Sean Cavanagh on the half hour, and a scoring burst before half-time formed the pattern the second half would take.

An early Donnelly free was to be as good as it got for Jordanstown in the second period as Tyrone dominated, with Sean Cavanagh again outstanding.
