Damian Casey on fast track to become Tyrone's talisman

Nicky Rackard Cup hurling

Damian Casey may not be a household name quite yet but this talented Tyrone hurler is certainly honing his finishing skills in fine style just now.

Having underlined his prowess in the recent league, Casey was at his best in his county's 1-27 to 2-21 win over Sligo in the Nicky Rackard Cup at the weekend, scoring 13 points and ensuring that the Red Hands always had their noses in front.

Matthew Mulgrew's goal proved invaluable as it came at a crucial stage and although Sligo worked hard, they were unable to overhaul their lively opponents.

Monaghan succumbed to Roscommon by 2-15 to 0-9 with Ronan O'Meara and Cillian Egan snapping up the goals in a comfortable win.

In the Lory Meagher Cup, Fermanagh surprised Warwickshire in Birmingham by winning by 2-17 to 0-18, a win that has rekindled belief within the Ernesiders' line-up.

* DUBLIN proved too strong for Roscommon in the All-Ireland Under-21 football final, winning by 1-21 to 3-6 at Tullamore.

Conor McHugh with 1-6, Paul Mannion, who registered 0-8, and Cormac Costello, who contributed 0-4, proved Dublin's chief marksmen.
