Tyrone joy as O'Neill makes comeback

By DECLAN BOGUE

Tyrone manager Mickey Harte is in the happy position to be able to recall team captain Stephen O'Neill in time for today's Round three Qualifier against Kildare in Newbridge.

Since the league final against Dublin, when O'Neill had to withdraw immediately before the game following a freak injury when he went over his ankle on a ball in the warm-up area, he has been dogged with ankle trouble, which developed into a problem with his Achilles. He played against Donegal in the Ulster Championship but then sat out the first two qualifiers against Offaly and Roscommon. Now, he returns to lead the team out.

Monaghan manager Malachy O'Rourke has recalled Paul Finlay to the starting line-up for the Ulster final this Sunday against Donegal. However, Tommy Freeman will start on the bench alongside Dick Clerkin who suffered an untimely break of a bone in his hand prior to the Ulster semi-final.

Derry have had to reshuffle their pack ahead of Saturday's round three qualifier against Cavan after the news broke this week of midfielder PJ McCloskey injuring his cruciate in the last round against Down.

Manager Brian McIver commented: "PJ stepped up to the mark to get us over the line the last day. Saturday's qualifier represents an opportunity for someone else to do the same.

"We're pleased to have gotten another home draw. This will be our final home game of the season so it's a great opportunity for Derry supporters to come out and get behind their team."
