Ulster's Champions line-up

A raft of Ulster hurlers have been included among the Champions 15 award winners for this year's Christy Ring, Nicky Rackard and Lory Meagher Cups.

The awards, which will be presented in tandem with the Allstars honours tomorrow night, are highly coveted and the fact that a strong contingent from Ulster is to be honoured reflects well on hurling here.

GAA president Liam O'Neill views the awards as highly significant and has hailed the winners.

"It is great to see players like these being honoured for their skill and dedication on the field of play after what has been a year to remember for hurling in general. I hope these awards shine a light on the superb artistry of so many of our hurlers who grace these three competitions year in and year out," says O'Neill.

Six Ulster players are included in the Christy Ring Cup Champions 15, namely: Paul Braniff, Gareth Johnston, Conor Woods, Patrick Hughes (all Down), Paddy Kelly (Derry) and Nathan Curry (Armagh)

The Nicky Rackard Champions 15 yields no fewer than eight Ulster representatives with Tyrone duo Martin Grogan and Damian Casey being joined by Monaghan's Peter Treanor and Trevor Hilliard while Donegal supply four in Christopher McDermott, Sean McVeigh, Lee Henderson and Dabnny Cullen.

Three Fermanagh players – John Duffy, Karl Kehoe and Eoin Mahon – are honoured in the Lory Meagher Champions 15 line-up.

* MICKEY Donnelly and Kieran McHugh have been appointed as the Tyrone minor football side's management team for the next two years.

They led the team into this year's All-Ireland final in which they were beaten by Mayo having delivered an Ulster title in 2012 and the pair are optimistic they can bring even more success.

"These are great lads to work with and their attitude this year has been first-class. If we can get the same response next year, then the sky can be the limit for us," says Donnelly.
