Walsh in St Kilda reckoning

Former Kerry star Tommy Walsh is on the brink of breaking into St Kilda's senior team.

Saints' defensive coach Peter Berbakov has revealed that Walsh is one of three rookie players in contention for a place in the senior side's backline next season.

Walsh has just completed the first year of a two-year international rookie contract.

"Whether it's Raph Clarke coming in and playing a few more games there and getting his body right or whether it's a young kid in Tom Simpkin or Tommy Walsh, there is certainly an opening," said Berbakov.

"You know there is going to be at least one new face in the back six. We'll see how we go in pre-season games to decide who."
