NFL DIVISION FOUR: Antrim survived a late penalty scare to hang on for a crucial victory in Walsh Park yesterday as Frank Fitzsimons' side maintained their push for promotion.
With the game in injury time, Declan Walsh fouled Liam Ó Lonáin inside the area. Paul Whyte stepped up to take the resultant kick with his side three points behind, but his shot went outside the left post.
It would have been rough justice on Antrim who were the better side on the day.
The visitors opened brightly with two McGourty frees, but Waterford always stayed in touch with White accurate from placed balls. Antrim just couldn't shake off a dogged Waterford but were always ahead and led 0-9 to 0-7 at the half.
It was nip and tuck in the early stages of the second half, with Pollock kicjing the first score from a free before Whyte responded in kind.
Leading by three in injury-time, the game appeared safe before the penalty drama gave Waterford a chance of a draw, but the missed effort ensured Antrim hung on for the win.
