World Cross Fit challenge works out well for Emma

Newry girl Emma McQuaid has risen to fifth in the World Rankings of Cross Fit after completing the latest training challenge.

Emma (pictured), who was the subject of a recent feature in the Belfast Telegraph in which she said she and trainer Neil Laverty had intended to pace carefully ahead of the European qualifying rounds in Madrid, explained: "The workout just suited me well. There were two of my favourite exercises in it, which are deadlifts and wall balls.

"The wall ball is when you squat and then throw the ball nine feet in the air to hit a target. It's a 6kg ball, to nine feet. It was 55 reps of everything. Yeah, it was nasty!

"We did expect to do fairly well on this one, given that they were two of my favourite exercises. So we did expect to do well, but perhaps not as well as it turned out.

"The last workout comes out on Thursday and then that's it. That will be the five workouts over."

The Madrid qualifiers are held on the last weekend in May, with the World Championships hosted in Atlanta.
