Glenn Irwin is boosted by Ulster Grand Prix backing
'Bight young racer' celebrates gaining new sponsor
The Metzeler Ulster Grand Prix has upped its marketing presence for 2015 by sponsoring talented local racer Glenn Irwin, who made his road-racing debut at Dundrod in 2014.
It's a clever idea, once taken up by the North West 200, with the promoting Coleraine & District Motor Club sponsoring Michael Rutter's British Superbike team for added brand awareness.
Irwin finished fourth in last season's British Supersport Championship with five victories to his credit, and has been installed as one of the hot favourites to land this year's middleweight prize with Gearlink Kawasaki.
For that reason alone, the Carrick lad will no doubt give the Ulster Grand Prix some much needed exposure during the opening half-dozen British championship events.
Irwin said of his new deal with the Dundrod & District Motor Club: "Having the Metzeler Ulster Grand Prix come on board to sponsor me has been a massive boost. It's the world's fastest road race and having such great local support shows just how many people believe in me."
Speaking of his fast-moving marketing role, Irwin added: "Together we can help promote UGP Bike Week and hopefully we can attract even more fans, because it's a fantastic event. I loved it last year and I can't wait to get back out on the roads. Nothing compares to the feeling."
Noel Johnston, Clerk of the Course at the Metzeler Ulster Grand Prix, said: "Glenn is one of our brightest young racers and a great ambassador for our sport. We are proud to offer him our support this year."
