Golf: Are you the next Rory?

Young golfers dreaming of future greatness have been given a helping hand by the career specialists Grafton Recruitment and Holywood's inspirational Rory McIlroy.

This year's Seamus Laverty Classic, the annual fund-raising open competition held to raise funds to support the juvenile section of Holywood Golf Club, has been launched by Rory and sponsored by Grafton Recruitment.

The stableford competition will take place on Friday at Holywood Golf Club and a number of tee times are still available to golfers from any club or standard.

Organisers and club members Seamus Laverty and Eddie Harper pointed out that all golfers from across Ulster will be made very welcome.

"With the Walker Cup coming and Rory's remarkable achievements, a new generation of Northern Ireland golfers have been inspired," they said.

"Growing numbers are all eager to follow in the golfing footsteps of their young hero and they all need to be encouraged by people from within the game.

"For the last eight years we've held a fund-raising competition to develop the grass roots of the game at the club.

"All funds raised help with the running of the juvenile sections from coaching and equipment, to travel expenses to and from competitions.

"Considering Rory's success we know the importance of developing the game locally, so we're determined to provide the current crop of youngsters with the same support and facilities as he enjoyed as he moved through the ranks."

If you want to book at tee time contact Holywood Golf Club on 9042 5503 or go to With fantastic prizes up for grabs, the entrance fee of £100 per fourball (£25 per person) is excellent value for money.
