Cairndhu Golf Club will become only the second host venue of the Northern Ireland Open when it stages this year’s event, which will serve as a qualifier for the ISPS HANDA World Invitational at Galgorm Castle.

After being held at Galgorm Castle each year since it was first held in 2013, the tournament switches location to allow Galgorm to prepare for the World Invitational, and scenic Co Antrim layout Cairndhu is the club that has stepped in to host the two-day event on June 14-15.

The NI Open, which makes the switch from the Challenge Tour to the Clutch Pro Tour this year, will again be presented by Niall Horan’s golf management company Modest! Golf and will see both men and women’s professionals competing for a £10,000 prize fund and a place in the field at the World Invitational.

“I am so delighted that we are able to offer a qualifying event for the ISPS HANDA World Invitational in partnership with the Clutch Pro Tour,” said Horan.

“Modest! Golf continually provide opportunities for the next generation of golfer and we hope this year’s NI Open provides golfers with a route to compete and qualify for one of the most exciting and unique events on the LPGA, LET and European Tour schedule.”

David Johnston, club captain at Cairndhu, added: “I am absolutely delighted to welcome the Northern Ireland Open as this year’s qualifying event for the ISPS HANDA World Invitational to Cairndhu Golf Club, and to play a part in driving the game forward with an event that provides equality and inclusivity. I hope in hosting the NI Open, we will have the opportunity to showcase our course, the stunning scenery and our world-famous hospitality.”
