Clarke in contention

Northern Irishman Darren Clarke will be looking to salvage a par with a 30-foot putt on the 14th hole to remain three under when play resumes at the US PGA Championship.

Another fog delay - over three hours was lost yesterday morning - meant Clarke had to play a waiting game before he could complete his opening round. Rory McIlroy was also well placed on one under.

Ireland's Shane Lowry was waiting to complete his round on two under, but former champion Padraig Harrington had ground to make up after a disappointing 75.

The first round had been scheduled to resume at 7am with South African Ernie Els and Americans Matt Kuchar and Nick Watney tied on four under with clubhouse leaders Francesco Molinari and Bubba Watson.
