G-Mac produces thrilling finish to make the cut in Tennessee

By Adam McKendry

Graeme McDowell produced a stunning finish to his second round at the FedEx St. Jude Classic in Tennessee to comfortably make the halfway cut.

At one point McDowell looked to be missing the cut at TPC Southwind as he sat at three-over with eight holes to play, but the Rathmore man rattled off six birdies on his way in to finish two-under for his first two rounds.

The 37-year old started his second round on the back nine and got off to a terrible start, bogeying the 10th, double bogeying the 12th and adding another bogey on the 13th, with a birdie at 11 providing some solace.

Another birdie followed at 16, but the back nine would end on a sour note as he dropped shots at both the 17th and 18th.

But after the turn things improved dramatically as McDowell birdied the 2nd, 3rd and 4th to bring himself back to level par, however a bogey at the 5th dropped him back over par.

That didn't deter him, however, as he hit straight back with back-to-back birdies on the 6th and 7th before closing out his round with a birdie at the 9th to leave him at two-under, safely inside the one-over cut line.

England's Ian Poulter will also feature this weekend after he finished at one-under par for the opening two rounds.

However, World No.9 Rickie Fowler will head to Erin Hills for the US Open early after he missed the cut.
