Graeme McDowell leading Rory McIlroy at Genesis Open after opening round

Graeme McDowell shot a two under 69 at the Genesis Open to lead the Northern Ireland charge on the opening round.

McDowell hit three birdies and a bogey on day one at the Riviera Country Club to finish two behind the leaders.

Elsewhere Rory McIlroy carded an even-par 71 in the opening round.

McIlroy was playing with Tiger Woods, who was a shot further back after signing for a 72.

The finish left the world number 10 four shots off the clubhouse leaders Tom Hoge, Dominic Bozzelli and Sam Saunders. There were a number of golfers still to begin their round at the Pacific Palisades, California course.
