Graeme McDowell finished in fifth place at the Honda Classic in Palm Beach, Florida, as Adam Scott took victory.
McDowell had started the day at three under par after shooting an impressive 67 on Saturday and was quickly into his stride with a birdie on the first hole.
That might have given him some hope of challenging the leaders, but the Portrush man was unable to make enough of an impression to really put them under pressure and in the end was five shots behind Scott, who finished on nine under.
Three consecutive pars followed before the former US Open champion dropped a shot on the fifth. He collected another birdie on eight and turned for home at four under for the tournament.
A bogey at the 12th was made up for with a birdie on the next hole and he finished with five pars in a row.
Scott and Sergio Garcia began the final round tied for the lead on nine under par.
Scott had a level par final round, with three birdies and three bogeys as Garcia faltered and carded one over par, leaving him in second place on eight under for the tournament.
