Harrington runs out of steam

A closing 72 at The Masters was not enough to put Padraig Harrington in contention on Sunday after an encouraging week at Augusta.

The three-time major winner went into the final day just four shots off the lead but ended the day six behind eventual winner Bubba Watson who emerged victorious from a play-off against Louis Oosthuizen to claim the green jacket.

Graeme McDowell continued his improvement throughout the week but a poor start to the tournament meant his closing 68 could only get him to two under.

Rory McIlroy endured another frustrating day as he shot a 76 to end the tournament five over in a tie for 40th.

Darren Clarke had failed to make the cut after finishing on 10 over on Friday night.
