Hoey in the mix after solid start at Himmerland
Northern Ireland's Michael Hoey continued his strong recent form with an impressive three-under par 68 in his opening round at the Made in Denmark on the European Tour.
Hoey is two shots off the lead, which is held by five different players, at Himmerland Resort after a round with three birdies, an eagle and a double bogey.
The 40-year-old has had two top-35 finishes on the European Tour recently as he aims to regain his full Tour card for next season.
Elsewhere, on the PGA Tour, it was a tough start to the Charles Schwab Challenge for Graeme McDowell, who is one-over par after his opening round.
The Rathmore man is still chasing a place in the field at The Open at Royal Portrush, however he will need to improve in order to move closer to that goal.
McDowell is seven shots off leader Tony Finau after a round that featured two birdies and three bogeys at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
On the Champions Tour, Darren Clarke is two shots off the lead after the opening round at the Senior PGA Championship, the first Major of the year.
Clarke shot a two-under par 68 on the East Course at Oak Hill to sit behind early leader Scott Parel, with Retief Goosen among those a shot back after day one at three-under par.
Meanwhile, Olivia Mehaffey has been named as an All-American at college level for the third time after another sensational season with the Arizona State Sun Devils.
Mehaffey, of Royal County Down, was named on the WGCA All-American Second Team in a year where she became the Pac-12 champion and finished as co-medallist at the Norman Regional.
