Irish duo keep in touch

Shane Lowry and Peter Lawrie were well in contention after day one of the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open at Castle Stuart.

On a day when Francesco Molinari stole the headlines by breaking the course record with a 10-under-par 62, the two Irishmen both shot rounds of 66 to sit four shots off the lead.

Padraig Harrington shot a 69 as he prepares to launch an assault for a third Open Championship next week while Paul McGinley shot a 71 and Damien McGrane carded a 73 with Simon Thornton a further shot back.

Northern Irishman Gareth Maybin signed for a one-over-par 73.
