Irish Open 2015: Line-up of WAGs makes it a doubles game for top players

By Christopher Woodhouse

It won't just be the spectacular natural beauty of the Mournes on show at the Irish Open for the WAGs (wives and girlfriends) of the world's top golfers are Newcastle-bound.

As the golfing superstars do battle on the stunning Royal County Down course, the spouses and partners will be bringing a touch of international glamour to the seaside town.

Among those cheering on our own Rory McIlory, who will be hosting this year's tournament, could be the 26-year-old Holywood man's rumoured new girlfriend Erica Stoll. The 27-year-old PGA employee was spotted having dinner with Rory at a restaurant in Rochester, New York, earlier this year.

Rumours that things had stepped up a gear began when they rang in 2015 together at a plush New Year's celebration at luxury Ashford Castle in Co Mayo.

However, the pair have yet to appear at an official engagement together and the Irish Open may be the perfect place for her to make her WAG début.

Other top names teeing off in the tournament include Martin Kaymer, who has been dating Sky Sports News presenter Kirsty Gallacher.

The German golfer, currently ranked number 16 in the world, has been dating the 39-year-old since last November following Kirsty's split from her husband, the former England rugby player Paul Sampson.

The weather on the south Down coast probably won't be quite good enough for the bikini model partner of 26-year-old Rickie Fowler to get into her swimming togs, but Alexis Randock will certainly cut a dash in the crowd.

American rising star Fowler has been dating the 24-year-old for over a year and she recently stole the show from her victorious boyfriend at The Players Championship in Florida with her very revealing ensemble.

Home-grown golfing hero Graeme McDowell will also be buoyed by the support of wife Kristin.

McDowell (35) romantically proposed to the US interior designer at the world's only seven star hotel, the Burj Al Arab, before marrying in the Bahamas in 2013. Kristin gave birth to a daughter Vale in August last year.

So expect to see mum and baby tracking daddy round the course.

Fellow local legend Darren Clarke will also be teeing off this weekend with wife Alison, a former Miss Northern Ireland, cheering him on.

Diane, the American wife of English golfer Luke Donald, may not be able to make it as their third child, daughter Georgina, has only just celebrated her first birthday.

The couple met while Luke was studying in the US.
