Watch: Russell Knox holes 'unbelievable' play-off putt to win Irish Open at Ballyliffin

By Gareth Hanna and Adam McKendry

Scotland's Russell Knox has won the 2018 Dubai Duty Free Irish Open after a play-off victory over Ryan Fox.

The world number 87, who could move up as many as 40 places tomorrow, shot a six under par final round 66 to tee up a play-off against New Zealander Fox, before holing a 40 foot putt in the first play-off hole to seal success.

He only made the extra hole by converting an almost identical raker across the 18th green in regulation play for birdie to get to the magic number of -14.

Fox had a ten foot putt to win in normal play but both that and a putt of similar length to continue the play-off slipped past the 18th cup on Ballyliffin's Glashedy Links.

The other major rewards up for grabs were three Open Championship places, which were secure by Fox, Zander Lombard and Andy Sullivan.

The best the Irish players could must was a T28th place finish secured by Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry, who both ended up on -2 for the week.

Here's how the action unfolded on the final day:
