Leona Maguire well placed after opening round of European Tour debut
Leona Maguire is well placed to make the cut in her European Tour debut tournament.
The 24-year-old carded an opening round one over par 71 at the Pacific Bay Resort Australian Ladies Classic in Bonville, Australia.
Maguire made birdie at the ninth to compensate for a drop shot at the sixth but made a disappointing bogey on the last to sit in a tie for 41st.
The 36-hole cut falls below the top 60 progessional scores along with ties and all amateur players within the mark. Another steady round and Maguire has a good chance of making it through to the weekend.
Australian amateur Doey Choi lead the way on six-under, two ahead of Swedish pair Madelene Sagstrom and Daniela Holmqvist.
Cavan woman Maguire led the women's amateur world rankings for 131 consecutive weeks and turned professional last June before making her LPGA Tour debut, finishing in a tie for 15th at the ShopRite LPGA Classic.
She won her European Tour card in December.
