Lowry in contention

Shane Lowry led the Irish charge at the rain interrupted Ballantine's Championship sitting just four shots off the lead held by Miguel Angel Jimenez and Brett Rumford.

Lowry was four-under par for the day and six under for the tournament through 17 before the players had to come off the course due to the weather.

Damien McGrane was a further two shots back through 10 holes while Northern Irishman Gareth Maybin was two under after completing 16 holes.

Paul McGinley was well adrift of the leaders on three over through 14 holes while Michael Hoey was a further two shots back having completed the first 11.
