Paul Cutler misses the cut on professional bow

By Karl MacGinty

Paul Cutler's professional debut ended with a whimper as he missed the cut at the Austrian Open in Atzenbrugg.

The Portstewart man was five over par going into the second round and the pressure clearly got to him as a two-over 74 yesterday wasn't enough to see him return for the weekend.

Finishing four shots outside the cut, it was a real baptism of fire for the new boy.

Clandeboye's Jonathan Caldwell and Michael McGeady also missed the cut after disappointing finishes.

Caldwell missed out by two while Derryman McGeady exited by one shot after two late double bogeys. It was another tale of woe for Damien McGrane who exited after hitting a 77 for seven over.

Gary Murphy (68) is the best of the Irish on four under while Padraig Harrington survived on one over after a topsy turvy 70 which included six birdies and four bogeys.

England's Robert Coles carded a seven-under-par 65 to find himself among four men sharing the halfway lead.

The 39-year-old followed up his opening round of level-par 72 with a flawless second day in which he picked up seven birdies at Diamond Country Club.

Dutchman Joost Luiten, Dane Thomas Norret and India's Gaganjeet Bhullar are also seven-under.
