Shane Lowry's Ardglass bagman Bo Martin named 'Caddy of the Year' at WGC HSBC Champions
Shane Lowry might be 15 strokes off the lead after three rounds at the WGC HSBC Champions but he's certainly not blaming his caddie as he winds up the most successful season of his career.
The Open champion regards Ardglass man Brian 'Bo' Martin as one of the keys to his stunning success this year and his bid to win the Race to Dubai.
And the bagman's part in a memorable 2019, principally at Royal Portrush in July, was recognised when he was named HSBC Caddy of the Year.
"Bo's bib says it all," said Lowry after Martin was presented with a special item of clothing in Shanghai.
After that Open victory during the summer, Lowry heaped praise on Martin.
"Bo has been incredible the last year," he said.
"He started caddying for me about September last year, just when I started to play well again. He's brought a new lease on life to me. He is so thrilled.
"He was great at keeping me in the moment. He's been great for me. Like I said, you see my results since then have been good."
Martin is a scratch handicapper in his own right and has previously caddied for the likes of Gary Murphy, Peter Lawrie, Alex Levy and Lucas Bjerregaard, winning three European Tour events with his previous employers.
